irreducibility is a album consisting of a series of pieces written for Will Yager (double bass). Written for Yager in 2018, irreducibility, for solo double bass meanders between some Persian music motifs, in an open-ended way.
About this album, he says “Like many artists over the past few months, I found myself dealing with the uncertainty of the future by looking to the past. In doing so, I discovered something of a theme in some older recordings. All of the works on this recording were premieres, recorded in the same space, and share some unintended musical commonalities. While they are each in possession of their own singular identity, they all explore ideas related to instability, fragility, and the stuff that lives in the cracks. It struck me that the pieces might make pleasant neighbors, and the idea for this release was born.”
